Our website is an essential resource for firms, providing fully updated information and help. Click on 'FSA Handbook' and you have access to the full Handbook. You will also be able to access the Reader's Guide, Forms and Guidance Notes. Our website also includes information on Periodic Fees for mortgage and insurance intermediaries.
Only some of our rules and guidance apply to mortgage and insurance intermediaries. To help these firms, we have brought the relevant provisions together into 'Tailored Handbooks', one for mortgage intermediaries and another for insurance intermediaries. You can access these from the mortgage and general insurance home page: www.fsa.gov.uk/pages/Doing/Info/MGI/index.shtml.
The FSA Register is also on our website (www.fsa.gov.uk/Pages/register/). It lists the permission of every FSA authorised firm and the controlled functions allocated to every registered individual.
We have specifically dedicated an area of our website for mortgage and general insurance regulation - www.fsa.gov.uk/pages/Doing/Info/MGI/Index.shtml. This includes:
• |
a series of factsheets; |
• |
answers to frequently-asked questions; |
• |
details of mortgage and general insurance publications; |
• |
information about the authorisation process; |
• |
details of workshops, seminars and other training events; plus |
• |
other information you might find useful. |

FSA Authorisation
Firms should no longer use the High Street Firms Application Pack and online application service to apply for authorisation to carry on mortgage business and mediation of non-investment insurance contracts. Instead, firms need to complete the appropriate Part IV Permission Application Pack. For more information about applying for authorisation, please see our Authorisation pages at: www.fsa.gov.uk/Pages/Doing/Info/MGI/Authorisation/index.shtml.
FSA Fees
A fee calculator is available on the website at: www.fsa.gov.uk/Pages/Doing/Info/MGI/regulated/calculator/index.shtml. This can give you an indication of the annual fees firms doing mortgage and non-investment insurance mediation will pay based on the fee rates consulted on. The calculator is indicative only and does not give firms a definite indication of their periodic fees for 2005/06 or future years. Nor does it take into account the fee discounts for firms in multiple fee-blocks we proposed in Consultation Paper 05/2.
Firm Contact Centre
Our Firm Contact Centre will be the main point of contact for small firms. This is where you should direct any queries about regulation and the FSA Handbook. You can reach the Firm Contact Centre by e-mail at fcc@fsa.gov.uk or by telephoning 0845 6069966. Lines are open between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm Monday to Thursday and 10.30 am to 5.00 pm on Friday.
