third-party custodian

  1. (a) a person who is authorised and supervised in the UK or in a third country for the activity of safeguarding for the account of another person of assets including core backing assets (excluding on-demand deposits) and expanded backing assets; or
  2. (b) any person appointed to safeguard core backing assets (excluding on-demand deposits) or expanded backing assets in circumstances described in CASS 16.6.7R(2).
